Project Dissemination : Where Science Meets Art
As students specializing in mathematics and physics, we are used to seeing the world through numbers, patterns, and logical structures. In this project, Where Science Meets Art, we explore how these same principles appear in the world of painting.
Within the unit Art, we focus on the hidden mathematics and geometry found in famous artworks. We argue that artists do not paint only with color and emotion—they also create with a deep understanding of mathematical concepts such as symmetry, proportion, perspective, and geometric structure.
The paintings selected for this project are chosen at random, yet each of them reveals clear examples of different mathematical categories. This demonstrates that mathematics is not separate from art, but deeply embedded within it.
The aim of this project is to highlight the strong interconnection between art and mathematics. Throughout our work, we will also use subject-specific vocabulary to clearly explain and emphasize key mathematical concepts present in visual art.
