Stories in a Nutshell

A Cup of Tea by Katherine Mansfield

The literature lesson designed for senior students is guided by the main objective to expand the students’ knowledge on the World Literature and explore the genre of short stories. Short stories like that are not only exciting and gripping, but also thought-provoking.

A Cup of Tea is a modernist style short story written by Katherine Mansfield in 1922. Rosemary, the protagonist, is caught up in a fantasy of helping others, but it doesn’t go as planned. A Cup of Tea is basically a story of human relationships. The greatest of humanity is not in being human but being humane. The students try to justify the title of the story concluding that Charity is not her Cup of Tea.

A number of activities are done to make the learning material more accessible. The students use graphic organizers and character analysis grid to render the text.
