Debates as a teaching method
Educators spend a great amount of time looking at how to improve the quality of education in our schools.
The questions we ask ourselves are always the same.
How to make our children more motivated and competitive? How to make our students value education?
The teachers’ task is to ensure that learning in high school is effective. With this purpose in mind we implement a new Debate Project guided by the main objective to renovate our teaching methods and enable our students to fit into the world.
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanian and the Book Giving Day, we launch the new whole school project Debates as a teaching method. To mark this day, we perform different activities. Though
there are many things to debate about, today’s dispute is on Learning from books or Learning from life experience.
Teachers get the blame for students’ failures and the lack of life skills. We respond to the allegations by organising discussions on controversial topics and offering opportunity for open communication.
For all young people debating activities are good preparation for further study and help to develop the skills which will be vital when coming to university level study.
