Listening is the key to effective communication

The lesson is designed within the framework of the cross projects The Book of the Month and Listening Comprehension as the Month’s Strategy.
In this lesson the students of grade 122 develop their listening comprehension skills working with such a marvellous literacy material as My Name is Aram by William Saroyan, which is read in our school as the book of the month.
The students speculate on the types of listening, marking
• Listening for gist: when they listen to understand the main idea of the text
• Listening for specific information: when they want to find out specific details, for example key words
• Listening for detailed understanding: when they want to understand all the information the text provides.
The learning material is carefully selected and implemented in innovative format of correlative teaching, when the two school disciplines English and Armenian unite their forces for a better comprehension and fruitful result. Such correlative linguistic influence is justified as the material presented in English classroom is an item of Armenian final examination program.
The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse by William Saroyan.
