Greek mythology has largely contributed to many of the words, phrases, and expressions in different languages. And not exclusively the English language, but also many others as well: Armenian, Russian, French, Spanish, Italian, etc.
The students are going to explore the influence of mythology in the world today. They try to understand the relationship between Greek mythology and the English language. During today’s activity, the students create a dictionary of English expressions rooted in Greek mythology to expand their vocabulary knowledge, form connections between history and present-day.
They recognize words and expressions of mythological background and find their equivalents in Armenian and Russian.
At the end of the lesson they come to a common agreement that Greek mythology is the foundation of allusions and each has a story behind.
